I’m Randi Kirshbaum and I LOVE Country music. You might be surprised to learn that about me because I’ve been on the radio playing Rock & Roll for my entire career. I’ve played Rock in Minneapolis (my hometown, where I got my first radio job), Baltimore, Washington DC, and Boston. I’ve been playing Rock on the radio here in Portland at our sister stations WMGX, WCLZ, and WYNZ for the past 29 years. But what you don’t know is that the music I’ve always listened to for fun has been Country. These days there are such great artists making music, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Toby Keith. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Toby Keith. I took my young daughter to meet him when he was in town and he patted her head and called her “sweetie”. I didn’t let her wash her hair for a week.

I think I was a cowboy in a past life because I am attracted to all things Southwestern.I own 22 pairs of cowboy boots, several bolo ties, and if it’s a studded belt, or turquoise and silver jewelry it’s in my accessories collection. Larry McMurtry is my favorite author and Lonesome Dove is my favorite book. Chili powder or cumin on any food makes it better.

I call Maine home. I know, I’m from “away”, but my husband is from Southwest Harbor, and my three kids were born here. (I know....”if a cat had kittens in the oven, would you call them muffins?”) I think Maine is the most wonderful place on earth. We have the ocean, lakes, mountains......Maine has it all. I spend a good part of my summer swimming and kayaking at our camp in the Belgrade Lakes region. The only music I like better than Country is the call of loons.

So I hope you’ll spend your workday with me, either on the radio at 101.9 FM or online here at wpor.com. We can make the workday more fun with some Boot Scootin’ Boogies and Red Solo Cups!
