NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Eric Church says having a hit album makes him feel there’s a target on his back.

But he says he isn’t too worried about whether the success of his last album, “Chief,” will affect him with his new work.

Church says he doesn’t think success of a project is tied to number-one hits or even sales — but how much an artist has grown since their last album.

Church is seen as a country “outsider” because he hasn’t followed a single path to fame. And he says that status helps keep him grounded.
