Country stars Rascal Flatts continue to laugh off the lip-syncing controversy which overshadowed their performance at the Academy of Country Music Awards last month, insisting they’ll never perform the stunt again.

The band came under fire after critics caught frontman Gary LeVox miming onstage at the Las Vegas ceremony, and he was forced to come clean about the performance, revealing he had lost his voice days before and decided to pretend to belt out the band’s new track “Rewind” instead of canceling the set at the last minute.

The group members confessed, “We’ve never done it before, and we’re obviously not very good at it.”

Rascal Flatts have since brushed off the controversy, but they have promised to make it up to fans at future gigs.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, bassist Jay DeMarcus made light of the incident by crouching behind LeVox and pretending to be a ventriloquist, using the singer as his doll.

Speaking for LeVox as the vocalist moved his lips, DeMarcus said, “For anybody that was offended by that, we sincerely apologise and hope to redeem ourselves in the near future on the next live performance.”

Ironically, LeVox’s lip-syncing slip-up came just after ACM Awards co-host Blake Shelton boasted about the show’s live performances, joking, “If you don’t like live music, then you need to go down the block and see Britney Spears.”
